Om August 15, 1965, the Beatles played at Shea Stadium. More than 55,000 people attended the concert which was the largest crowd in history at that time. Their stage was very small in comparison to shows of today. The noise of the crowd quickly drowned out the music of the Beatles. The link below shows a number of photos of the event.
It's amazing the way The Beatles toured in the mid 60's.
By the late '60s, real PA systems (and road crews to set them up) were developing rapidly.
True, there have been a lot of huge changes to live concerts since then. It looks like they might have been using 3 Vox Super Beatles for their guitars at Shea Stadium. Adding in all the screaming from the fans, I wonder how much could actually be heard? I saw them on the same tour when they played at Memorial Coliseum in Portland on August 22, 1965. Although the loud, high-pitched screaming from fans was annoying, we could still hear them from where we were up in the nose-bleed section. At a guess, that might have been due to the fact that the Coliseum was a large indoor space as opposed to the open outdoor space at Shea Stadium.

chantal: HELP! I distinctly remember seeing an animated GIF in someone's signature, of Paul saying "stupid". I'd like to nick that one for my Beatles GIFs Pinterest board. Where can I find it?

aieahaole48: LOVE YOUR HUMOR RE THE PAUL/'FAUL' ISSUE! First time I've laughed out loud since I was widowed in 2012. YES, the pic of Paul with the black woman was from '66, during the Beatles U.S. tour - she was one of the Ronettes, one of the opening acts.
